Why Has America Gotten Fatter?

Obesity is a prevalent issue in the United States.  Beginning around 1980, a trend began arising that has literally “tipped the scales” towards a fatter America.  Many scientists believe the reason why Americans started gaining weight en masse is because 1980 introduced us to “laboratory” foods, artificial stimulants, and ingredients in food that were meant to make food easier to prepare, cheaper, longer lasting, and inexpensively flavored. The problem with this implementation of artificial ingredients into the American food system is that chemical additives such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, and benzoate preservatives are actually very harmful to the human body, not to mention being difficult to digest, slowing down our bodily functions, as well as the metabolic processes we depend on to stay healthy.

According to Dr. Robert DeMaria, “The food conglomerates created sustenances that [were] tasty, salty, and sugar laden, which lead to addiction. Their plan worked so well, that nearly 60% of all Americans are obese and some critically obese. Moms went to work, creating a need for fast, convenient foods. The government created subsidies for farms to stop actually growing healthy food, and was told to focus on cheap grains, like wheat and soy. Farmers today literally cannot produce the food we need to stay fit, because they are being subsidized to grow cheap, easy foods the main components of high calorie addictive snack and convenience items.”   If staying or becoming fit is a priority for your family, then the easiest way to jumpstart a healthier lifestyle is to critically evaluate the types of foods you put into your bodies.

Here is a list of foods to avoid when trying to lose weight and/or reduce your risk for diseases such as coronary hearth disease, diabetes, stroke, etc…   1.)  Hight Fructose Corn Syrup – This highly refined sugar is dangerous because it predisposes the body to turn all fructose ingested directly into fat. Another disturbing element about this sugar substitue is that it is poorly digested, if digested at all, by the liver, thus increasing the risk for diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.   2.)  Artificial Sugars – Artificial sweeteners such as Aspartame, Splenda, Equal, and Sweet n’ Low should be avoided at all costs. These chemical additives are highly toxic to our bodies in nearly every imaginable way. The American Cancer Society puts this into detail by saying, “A recent study of more than 125,000 people found a link between consumption of aspartame sweetened soda and the risk of leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma-“. Artificial sugars also slow down the metabolic system in the human body and have been linked to respiratory issues including asthma, palpitations, and shortness of breath.

3.) MSG – This harmful chemical is meant to stimulate the appetite so you will eat more food at one sitting. The Mayo Clinic tells us that MSG has been know to cause: headache, flushing, sweating, facial pressure or tightness, numbness,, tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas, rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations), chest pain, nausea, and weakness.   4.) Trans Fat – Harvard speaks of the dangers of trans fats in foods by saying, “This phantom fat—the worst fat for the heart, blood vessels, and rest of the body—was found in thousands of foods… Today we know that eating trans fats increases levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL, “bad” cholesterol), especially the small, dense LDL particles that may be more damaging to arteries. It lowers levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles, which scour blood vessels for bad cholesterol and truck it to the liver for disposal. It also promotes inflammation, (6) an overactivity of the immune system that has been implicated in heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic conditions. Eating trans fat also reduces the normal healthy responsiveness of endothelial cells, the cells that line all of our blood vessels. In animal studies, eating trans fat also promotes obesity and resistance to insulin, the precursor to diabetes. This multiple-pronged attack on blood vessels translates into heart disease and death.”

5.) Benzoate Preservatives – Commonly labeled as BHT, BHA, and TBHQ, sodium benzoate is a toxic preservative that literally alters our DNA. Natural News tells us that, “Sodium benzoate chokes out your body’s nutrients at the DNA cellular level by depriving mitochondria cells of oxygen, sometimes completely shutting them down. Just as humans need oxygen to breathe, cells need oxygen to function properly and to fight off infection, including cancer.”
